Book two picks up without missing a beat. I was glad the authors gave a brief rundown of book one before I started reading. This story takes place 300 years after the fall of society and both religious and political dissention is spreading. Some people live in the wild and others are in the townships. 'Fear, power and silver' are motivators for the ones that are under control of others.

Our favorite characters are in the mix once again. And, of course, the evil ones as well. Ella Barrow and her son William are assisted by Warden Bray. His character is still as complex as in the first book. I kept asking myself what makes him tick during this latest story. And, speaking of complexity, toss in Father Winthrop for a real mix of evil doings. Oliver and Jingo are added into the story for a welcome addition. And, I love the mystery of the Ancient City that is spoken about by multiple characters.

Lots of poignant moments to reflect on; gore and demons to keep your blood pressure way above the healthy level; Blackthorn's soldiers on their marauding missions; and an ending that has multiple cliff hangers for the reader to ponder on until the next book arrives!

Excellent read for me with an exciting plot, well developed characters and an ending that surprises the reader on several fronts.

Solid mid-series entry

Most middle entries in a series involve lots of setting the pieces up for the conclusion, and this is no different. More details of the society are fleshed out, and the picture the authors paint is very believable as the characters maneuver things into place.

There's a good blend of action, political intrigue, and even a hint of romance. They do a great job bouncing between the different characters' point of view, although I would have enjoyed some more characterization for some of them.

However many more books in the series there will be, the pieces are in play and I will be back for more!

Good Read. Highly Recommend.

This sequel is as good as book one in the series.
Again we follow Bray, Ella and William as they find disaster in Davenport. Three survivors have escaped the slaughter and they track them having adventure and heartache as they travel.
The world of the priest, soldier and scholar twists and turns as they try to survive the plots of each other.
Please enjoy this book after reading book one in the series.

Your road map to the Centenarian Club!

As perhaps some of you may realize, I am what the majority of folks would consider an extreme health nut, that peculiar type of person who seems to place personal fitness, health, and longevity at the uppermost tier of existence. Rarely have I ever met another human being who views my philosophical passion for overall well being as rational for ordinary life amongst our cultural ways. Indeed, I am a deviant soul who hears the music of a vastly different drummer - deviant in that my penchant for pursuing maximum functional longevity is clearly not normal when measured against the American Way, in a country where excesses are the expected goal, pharmaceutical companies are the treasured providers of easy health maintenance, and physical neglect is masked as an age related phenomenon.

I may be viewed as a longevity warrior perhaps, one who respects life to such a degree that my path is largely determined by that which actually extends functional life, rather than by those things coveted by the masses that shorten and destroy the very power of life that grants us our short adventures on Earth. I attempt always to be one who heals life, not one who wounds it. In pursuit of maximum functional longevity, which is living long in a fully functional manner, rather than spending the final 15 years of my life in unpleasant decline and assisted living facilities, I have read many books and assessed many studies during my adult life that suggest strategies intended to keep my direction true. From books that detail the nuts and bolts of the human body and what keeps it working flawlessly, to books that review commonalities among centenarians, I soak up knowledge to remain vital and strong.

Currently in my sixty-fourth year of sentient beingness on this planet, I recently completed reading yet another book worthy of anyone's time if passing the 100 year mark is honestly something that is not seen as a ludicrous pipe dream. I am what most would call an "old" man, but I pedal a tricycle, a vehicle that replaced petroleum powered automobiles for me in 2008. Quite a following of adult tricycle riders has grown up around my writings during the past several years, and astonishingly, out of these ranks came a Dutch fellow, from the realm of windmills, now residing in Spain, who seemed to share my passion for maximum functional longevity. I know many trike riders around the world, but this particular man, a one William Cortvriendt, happens to have recently written and published an exceptionally relevant manuscript geared to help the reader sail past the century sign with smiles on the face, and a 'full speed ahead' attitude. This book has an attitude - an attitude worth assuming yourself!

Accept the common delusion that age brings us down at 78 years regardless of what we do, so why even bother? Yes, this is America, land of the short-timers.

Genes play a part in our lifespans, but even negative genetic markers can be significantly diminished and overcome. It is not hopeless if we have a known family history of some type of disease or disorder. Does his advice require a commitment on your part? Sure, as does anything worthy of respect in life, for there is no free lunch. Lifestyle changes are going to be in order, but if you are one of those with eyes finally opening for whatever reason, this book will help to open them fully. This book is a great source of information and an important pleasant read!

Finally a well readable book about what is healthy and what is not based on published evidence which everyone can understand. Often graphs can be confusing to some but I think the author did a nice job so that we can understand more clearly. One such example is blood glucose page 48 where the author explains when we eat the wrong foods after two hours some people get shaky and feel they have to eat again so the vicious circle continues. Why fasting diets do not work and only more harmful. Dr. Cortvriendt explains why fats are good for us,and what foods we should eat and the evidence that proves it. I never understood about cholesterol before reading this book.
I was unaware how dangerous taking certain multi vitamins are and not contributing to our health at all, but instead increase our chance of cancer and cardiovascular disease. Why were we not informed of this before?
Interesting chapters on chocolate being healthy and lowering our blood pressure. who would have thought it could decrease risk of becoming diabetic, or that most cases of dementia can be prevented.

Very clear, no pitches, the information you need to live better and maybe longer

This is a very good book and I hope lots of folks read it. I stumbled across it due to the author's connection with an old schoolmate of mine from junior high school of all times. Turned out to be a very helpful coincidence though. The chapters in this book cover all the major aspects of health, from why we age to diet to exercise to the effects of other lifestyle decisions. The contents of the chapters are well-researched and well-documented. The author comes across as sincerely interested in wanting to help you make the right decisions about how to live, to live a century or more. There were no pitches for programs or products, just info on the current state of science regarding aging and health.

I did not expect this when I started reading it, but the author's enthusiasm regarding our ability to make things better, coupled with the evidence-based science and over-all readability of the book ended up having a motivational effect on me. The book was like a tonic, and I like that in a book!

Band class could teach more.

This is the book my 6th grader's band teacher chose to use for their middle school band.
I played a different brass instrument in the 1980's and at times I think that the book could make it more interesting for the kids and the progress is quite long winded.

I can't fairly say if this issue to the book or the children's efforts or teacher. I think something must be going right because the band in middle school has tripled since their new teacher with his enthusiasm and the instructional book joined our district.
I would like to see more vocabulary taught alongside the lessons as well as various interesting bits of information about instruments,composers as well as popular music terms. I think it's also very important that they focus on reading the time signature early on.
The book appears to be a great book, those are my suggestions for newer editions in the future. Because my son's band has grown 3 grimes as large within a year they're adjusting!

Good Begining Book

I am a retired senior and an active musician, I have played (traditional jazz) for many years and play several gigs every week, but I recently sustained an injury to my left thumb (overuse-playing banjo) and may need to change instruments so I am a beginning trombone student. I will probably need some lessons asap, but this book seems like a good place to start working/learning on my own. It's working for me for the 'basics' and I would recommend it.

I bought this book for more sample questions and answers for my ISTQB Advanced level Test analyst exam.But,the sample questions in this book are very complex and not even close to those questions you get in the actual exam.While preparing for the exam,I found ISTQB site's syllabus and Sample Questions / Answers were more useful than this book.

I picked up this book for self study for the ISTQB advanced test analyst exam. I passed the exam. I thought the examples were way too long and cumbersome to work through. The book served the purpose and I passed the exam. Three stars.

Daniel Jappah's book EVOLUTION: A GRAND MONUMENT TO HUMAN STUPIDITY is itself a minor monument to human stupidity. After a biographical narrative contrasting the supposed darkness of evolution-infected college biology courses with the scintillating brilliance of his own anti-evolution religious convictions, the author tries his hand at lambasting evolutionary biology. His rationale? Jappah states in the Forward to his book that in tackling the demon of evolution he's inspired to overlook the deficiencies of his own curriculum vitae by the fact that no member of the U. S. National Academy of Sciences (NAS) has received a Nobel prize for research in evolutionary biology. The "logic" of such reasoning leaves one slack-jawed and bug-eyed with incredulity: "These scientists haven't received Nobel prizes for research in evolutionary biology, and neither have I. So I'm as qualified as they are to pronounce on evolutionary biology." He further concludes: "...therefore, the strategy of the NAS of using Nobel scientists to defend evolution is just as valid as using an auto mechanic to defend quantum mechanics." Of course, by parity of reasoning, the use of non-Nobel-recipient Creationists to ATTACK evolution is just as valid as going to one's dry cleaner for dental prophylaxis. Self-insight obviously isn't Jappah's long suit.

Think about it: according to the Theory of Evolution, it took some 3.5 billion years of natural selection to produce Daniel Jappah. So Jappah arrives just in the nick of time to write a book simply bursting with the wisdom of ages, the sort of book that actually turns its readers into authentic geniuses. That's right: when one reads Jappah's book, one can actually FEEL oneself becoming as much more intelligent than Albert Einstein as Einstein himself was more intelligent than a parakeet. Most importantly, the book enables one to comprehend, probably for the first time, the three crucial axioms of Creation Science: (1) it is always darkest where there is least light; (2) you are most alone when there is no one else; and (3) things would be different if they hadn't turned out like this. But if you just can't tell that reading the book is making you smarter, then simply turn the book upside down and read it again BACKWARDS. Welcome, Brother, to the Golden Age of Stupidity, a time when stupidity is not merely the norm but the ideal.

Dirty Secrets of Evolution

Daniel Jappah has exposed the dirty secrets of evolution in his 391-page book, Evolution: A Grand Monument To Human Stupidity”. (Yes, I read the entire book.)

The theory of evolution was popularized by Charles Darwin in 1859. Few people know the full title of his book. It is: “On The Origin of Species By Means of Natural Selection Or The Preservation of Favored Races in the Struggle For Life”. Note that the racist portion of the title is not well known: “Preservation of Favored Races”.

Evolutionists believed that the human races had different ancestors: the white race descended from the chimpanzees, the blacks from gorillas and the Asians from orangutans. The white race was superior, the Asians next, and the blacks were basically still animals. The blacks supposedly had only the intelligence of an 11-year-old white boy.

Jappah quotes Darwin: “At some future period, not very distant as measured by centuries, the civilised races of man will almost certainly exterminate, and replace, the savage races throughout the world.”

Early evolutionists preached white superiority, racial purity and segregation of the races. An African pigmy was even displayed in an animal cage at a New York zoo.

What impressed me is that Jappah, a black man, used the very last chapter in his book to examine the racial roots of evolution. I am sure it took a lot of restraint, which adds to the credibility of Jappah’s book.

Restraint is necessary when we read about “scientists” who collected black penises and placed them in jars in their library or study. Yes, the black men first had to be murdered by the bounty hunters. I would not be as kind as Jappah. I would call them murderers and mentally disordered sex offenders of the worst type. These people claim to be “scientists”? Shame on them and shame on the evolutionary theory!

Evolutionists also became fervent believers in the evil science of eugenics, i.e., getting rid of the unfit and undesirable peoples. Jappah writes that Planned Parenthood was started by Margaret Sanger who wanted to exterminate the black people through sterilization, pregnancy prevention and abortion.

Jappah concludes his book by describing evolution as an “evil and racist philosophy masquerading as science”.

I won’t go through all the arguments against evolution. You should read the book for that.

The reason for teaching evolution in high schools today is that there is no other theory to teach, except for creation by a supreme being. Many scientists in other disciplines openly scoff at the theory of evolution, and the lack of solid evidence. The origin of life cannot be explained except by surmise and conjecture. No missing links have ever been found, although there have been a number of attempts to falsify missing links. The complexity of life cannot be explained, nor the huge variety of life.

Richard Dawkins, a staunch supporter of evolution attempts to explain the design in nature by claiming that it is only an illusion created by random choice. Just several days ago Stephen Hawking released his book The Grand Design, where he opines:

“Because there is a law such as gravity, the Universe can and will create itself from nothing. Spontaneous creation is the reason there is something rather than nothing, why the Universe exists, why we exist.”

When there is nothing, there are no laws. Nothing. How can Hawking claim that gravity existed before there was any matter? This is an assumption without any basis in fact and is lacking in simple logic. The claim is absurd that nothing created everything.

I have read a number of books on evolutionary theory, and the book by Jappah is one of the better ones. Buy it and read it!
