Buy this standard edition for the power of content, the premium edition for the glory of expression.

Cunard's "Getting there is half the fun!" slogan survived in our minds well past the steamship age into the first half of the mass airline transport age. This book tells you how and why.

Lacking the knock-down, stunning graphics of the Airline Visual Identity: 1945-1975 Premium Edition it does have nearly all the same content (384 pages in the standard edition, 436 pages in the premium edition). The posters are there, just not reproduced with the expensive (and beautiful) processes that make the premium edition a collector's piece.

What you do get is an enormous volume on the development of corporate identity and branding in the airline industry, coupled with background on the professionals involved--the graphics designers, the illustrators, the marketers--and the decisions they faced.

I'm going to spend a lot of time in this book and, in a year, it will be worn, full of dog-eared pages and sticky notes, and marked by coffee spills and muffin crumbs. (Should I admit paint spills, too, because I plan to keep this book in the studio for inspiration?) By then, I hope to be able to afford the Premium Edition, too, just to have and hold in my permanent library for the beauty of its content.

A Conversation Starter

Allison’s work shines a light into the dark shadows of modern day animal agriculture, exposing something that the industry wishes we would forget- animals matter. What if the Shoe Were on the Other Hoof? is a poignant examination of the fundamental truth about all of us; none of us want to hurt animals. So why do we? The answer to this question requires us to re-evaluate our most deeply-held beliefs about using animals. Keith shows how to widen our view and build upon the compassion that we all inherently possess. Engaging and filled with complexity, What if the Shoe Were on the Other Hoof? is a good book to share and wait for the conversations to follow. Because they will. This book is a conversation starter.

and—the best argument yet—the “I won’t get enough protein” defense

I think the true question is not what this book discusses—it is what it doesn’t discuss. WSWOH covers the whole spectrum of animal-related concerns: birth to death of the animals society eats, the way most individuals care deeply for some animals (dogs and cats) but ignore the well-being of animals who have an equal amount of intelligence and capacity to feel (cows, pigs, chickens, and turkeys) and common arguments against veganism, the “normal and natural” argument, the ever famous “I only purchase humane meat” argument, and—the best argument yet—the “I won’t get enough protein” defense. In addition, Keith talks about the health and environmental effects of consuming animals and addresses the intersection of human and animal rights and the paradox many educators face when it comes to speaking up versus staying quiet about ugly truths, like animal cruelty in our food system.
What truly makes the discussion of these topics special, though, is the way Keith presents them. He doesn’t state fact after fact in a way that makes the reader feel like he or she is reading a textbook. Rather, he engages the reader by constantly asking questions. Moreover, each section of his book is no longer than a few pages, so it can be read in short spurts. It’s likely that readers will walk away asking themselves questions about their own behavior after reading just one or two sections.
Keith also presents his points with a sense of humor, which makes the topics being presented feel less threatening.
In short, I highly recommend Keith's book. It won't leave readers disappointed, just more aware of the issues that exist within our current food supply systems.

I highly recommend this informative

As a struggling meat-eater in a family of carnivores, I have been drawn to the thought of a plant-based diet. Talking with Keith, and then reading this book, has pushed it home for me. His words are non-judgemental, yet informative and moving. I considered myself savvy on the subject of vegetarianism, yet never really thought about the sadness and pain the animals endure. They're "just" animals, right?

I highly recommend this informative, captivating, entertaining (yes, it IS humerous oftentimes, thanks to Keith's personality and writing skills) and passionate book for people of all ages. It would be a great book for monthly reading clubs.

Good offline tool.

It is a good book, there are quite a lot of idioms, but quite a few are missing (e.g. 'at the top of the game'). When I search for a specific phrase, I prefer using online Urban Dictionary, but as a a non-native speaker, I often refer to the book just to learn a couple of more new idioms.

The delivery of the book was quick but cover was a little bit crumpled.

About the Author
Jacqueline Morton, launched the O&H Study Guide series with English Grammar for Students of French in 1979, and continues on as the editor of the series (Spanish, German, Russian, Italian, Latin, Japanese, Arabic, Chinese, and Gramática para estudiantes de inglés). She is a French native, has a PhD in French from Columbia University and taught French at Columbia College and Smith College. She went on to be the coordinator of French basic courses at Wayne State University, Detroit, Michigan.

Great Little Book.

I have a half dozen books on French Grammar and this one is my favorite. It is well organized, clear and concise. There are areas where it lacks the necessary detail, but I compliment such sections with other books. It is only 176 pages, so I can use it as my primary reference guide. It is odd, but every book I have read has introduced concepts that either were not covered in a previous book or that were not clear or properly emphasized. I therefore do no view the perceived gaps in this book as a shortcoming, but rather as a necessary attribute of any book on such a complex subject. The book is short enough that I have read it multiple times, letting the concepts really sink in. This is particularly helpful after I have worked with the material and read the same concepts in other books. So, while some people might view the concise nature of this book as a defect, I think it is actually a plus. Some books get so bogged down in detail that the really important concepts get buried and lost. I use this book primarily with "Living Language, Ultimate French."

Love it!

I just opened this book and immediately knew I would absolutely love it, as I teach students (seniors students) who are learning basic French. Although I gave them a printout of parts of speech, this book isa valuable addition to my teaching tools. I wish every student could be able to purchase it, but it is too costly for people who live on social security. They have told me their grandchildren do not learn parts of speech in English anymore in school. I was shocked! Could this be true? This book sets forth English grammar in a clear, completely understandable way. A must for anyone teaching grammar for students of French.

It's especially useful if you are not sure of what grammar terms mean in English. Don't buy it to replace a French textbook -- use it in addition to a textbook.
